Sarala Birla University, which goes by its abbreviation SBU, is a private self-financed university that is located in the Birla Knowledge City in the village of Ara. the university is at a distance of about 10 kilometres from the main city of Ranchi in Jharkhand. Sarala Birla University was established by Gyan Mandir and Bharat Arogya through the Sarla Birla University Act of 2017 that was passed by the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly on 3rd February 2017. Situated amidst verdant surroundings and spread over an area of 60 acres, the Sarala Birla University has been introduced into the sector of higher education in the country so that it can set new benchmarks for quality education in several fields like professional, technical, general, medical education etc.

Sarala Birla University does not limit itself to the education sector but also endeavours to promote the study of social justice, secularism and democratic way of life, national integrity, international understanding and scientific approach to all the problems faced by the society in totality etc. the aim of Sarala Birla University is to become a global leader by creating an economy of knowledge where there would be an integration of industry and academia to nurture leaders who are connected closely to the roots and are enlightened, creative, and dynamic. Presently, Sarala Birla University, Ranchi runs four departments-  Department of Commerce and Management, Department of Engineering and Technology, Department of Yoga and Naturopathy, and Department of Social Science and Humanities. Sarala Birla University has been approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
